This is one
of the most asked question now a days. If you google this question, you will
come across thousands of websites and YouTube videos trying to tell the
meaning. But most of the answers are too technical that it makes the beginners
very confused. Considering this big problem, let us tell you the meaning, yes!
You read it right! No definition, just the meaning in very simple words with
day to day life examples. So, let’s begin!
What is
UX or User Experience?
The feeling
you get while using any service or product (digital / physical), is called User Experience. If you are using a product without any trouble, then the user
experience of that product is good. Opposite to that, if you are using a
product and you are facing some problem using it, then the user experience of
that product is not so good.
Let’s
understand it with some real-world products with good User Experience:
Automatic Hand Dryer:
We all have seen & used this product many times but we not aware of
its great user experience. Imagine you are washing your hands in the washroom
and you have to press a button of the hand dryer with your wet hands, will you
do it? No. The most amazing thing of the automatic Hand Dryer is that it does
not ask you to touch it anywhere or asks you to press any button to start or
stop it. You simply need to put your hands under the hand dryer and that’s it.
It starts and stops itself. This feature is made keeping the user in mind whose
hands are wet.
Bluetooth Earphones or Headphones
All of us love to listen songs & earphones make our day with its
amazing sound quality. But we all are aware how difficult it is to deal with
the wired earphones. People who loves to listen music while workout will
understand the problem better. And then came the Bluetooth earphones to make
our lives very easy. Now we don’t need to worry about the irritating wire. We
can pair the Bluetooth earphones with any music device.
Time to see how digital products also built with user experience:
Google
Home page :
As you can see in the image that google home page has a very minimalist
design. The biggest object on the page is the search bar which is there to
fulfill the main objective of the user coming on this page which is to search
things. There is no way your eye can missed out the search bar. This is one of
the good user experiences which we all get without realizing it.
Imagine
you are lying on sofa in your bad room and your mobile is on the table next to
your sofa. A new message comes to your WhatsApp and your hand gets the mobile
to see the notification. Now the question, how did you realize that you got a
new WhatsApp message without seeing the mobile screen? The answer is the
notification tune! Your mind recognizes the notification tune and orders your
hand to take the mobile. Good User Experience!
It’s not that
every time a great product serves a great experience, sometimes it needs to be
improved. Like, Google Pay app requires three taps to open QR code scanner
where as PhonePe & Paytm opens the QR code scanner in single click.
Some people
will not consider it has a problem but imagine you are in rush and you are
holding your mobile in one hand and a heavy bag in another hand. In this
scenario, every click increases the frustration and makes the task more
difficult.
Also, many
of us have come across a situation where somebody has added in a WhatsApp group
without our permission. This is not so good user experience.
